- Small objects on simple backgrounds (sky, grass, sand, water, walls)
- Text, date stamps, and watermarks
- Dust spots, blemishes, and power lines
- Large selections (over ~15% of the image)
- Busy or intricate textures and detailed scenes
- Rebuilding faces, text, or objects hidden behind the removed area
This tool copies texture from the rest of your photo (patch-based inpainting). It does not use generative AI, so it cannot invent content that isn't already in the image.
How to use Photo Cleanup
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove an object from a photo?
Upload your photo, paint over the object with the brush so it is fully covered in red, then click Remove Object. The tool fills the area using texture from the surrounding background. For several objects, remove them one at a time using “Keep editing this result”.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser using JavaScript.
What image formats are supported?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 15 MB.
Can I remove people or watermarks?
Yes. For best results, keep the painted area small and ensure the background around it is relatively uniform.
Why does the result look patchy sometimes?
The tool uses patch-based inpainting: it copies small pieces of the existing background into the hole. It works very well on skies, grass, walls, sand, water and other repeating textures, but it cannot invent content that is not in the photo. Large selections (more than about 15% of the image), detailed scenes, faces, and objects that cross straight lines or edges may need a second pass or a smaller selection.
Does it reduce the resolution of my photo?
Photos larger than about 2 megapixels are analyzed at a reduced resolution for speed. Only the area you painted is replaced; the rest of your photo keeps its original full resolution.
Can I download the result?
Yes — as PNG, JPG, or WebP.
