How to use Image Compressor
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compress an image?
Upload your image by dragging it onto the page, clicking to browse, or pasting it from the clipboard. Choose a quality level and click Compress All. Your compressed image is ready to download instantly.
Does compression reduce image quality?
Lossy compression (JPG, WebP) reduces some quality to achieve smaller files. The High Quality preset (85) is usually indistinguishable from the original. PNG compression is lossless — file size reduction comes from better encoding, not quality loss.
Can I compress JPG images?
Yes. JPG images can be re-compressed at a lower quality level. The tool uses your browser's built-in JPEG encoder so results are fast and private.
Can I compress PNG images?
Yes. PNG uses lossless compression so the quality slider does not reduce visual quality — the browser re-encodes the PNG to a potentially smaller file. For larger reductions, convert the PNG to WebP or JPG instead.
Can I compress WebP images?
Yes. WebP compression works like JPEG — the quality slider controls the lossy compression level. WebP usually produces files 25–35% smaller than equivalent JPEG at the same quality.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Upload as many images as you like. They will be compressed one at a time to avoid running out of memory, and you can download each one individually or all at once.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
Can I target a specific file size?
Yes. Open the Target Size section, choose a preset (100 KB, 250 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB) or enter a custom value in KB. The tool runs up to 8 compression passes with a binary search algorithm to get as close to your target as possible.
