How to use Subtitle Formatter

1
Import or paste subtitles
Use UTF-8 SRT or VTT up to 2 MB. Original source remains editable even if parsing fails.
2
Review and fix
Correct timestamp errors in the source. Edit cue text below after validation passes. Overlapping or out-of-sequence cues block exports.
3
Export SRT or VTT
Timing and cue text are preserved. VTT positioning is preserved in VTT; converting to SRT removes positioning settings with an explicit notice.
Processed in your browser
This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Files you select are not uploaded to any server. Processing happens locally on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are advanced VTT features supported?

Timed cues, identifiers, and common cue settings are supported. Header metadata, NOTE, STYLE, REGION, and unsupported settings remain in the source and block export rather than being silently discarded.

Are long lines automatically shortened?

No. Lines over 42 Unicode code points and cues with more than two lines show readability warnings. You choose whether to edit them.
